Tours: Siena and the Sienese
Siena - Montepulciano - Montalcino - S. Antimo - Monte Oliveto Maggiore - S. Quirico d'Orcia - Castiglione d'Orcia

The Tenuta di Arceno estate lies in the hills of the Chianti
Classico,Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, near the town of San
Gusmé.
At Tenuta di Arceno all we do is listening to the message of the soil
and what our winemakers do is let the vineyards exspress for themselves.
The Tenuta di Arceno team selects the vines and farming methods based on
each vineyard's soil, slope, altitude and all the other elements that
make up "terroir".
The result is something remarkably new from a land where fine wine is a
tradition which dates back for centuries.

CASTIGLIONE D’ORCIA
Sala d’Arte Sacra S. Giovanni (sacred art exhibition)
A very new space inaugurated in 2006 in the ‘Compagnia di S. Giovanni’ church near Piazza del Vecchietta. The church has a simple gabled facade and a trussed interior with an altar in Baroque-style masonry. The art collection displaysthe heritage of the churches of Castiglione and Rocca d’Orcia, with three valuablefourteenth century panels as highlights. Starting on the left we find a ‘Madonna col bambino’ from the studio of Pietro Lorenzetti (the first half of the fourteenth century) from the S. Maria Maddalena church, and a similar piece attrbuited to a Sienese painter from the first half of the fourteenth century, from the church of S.Stefano e Degna and a ‘Madonna col bambino’ by Simone Martini, fom the S. Maria Maddalena church. There is also a ‘Madonna col bambino incoronata da angeli’ by fifteenth-century Sienese painter Lorenzo di Pietro, also known as Vecchietta, with a multilobed cusp and an imposing throne in perspective, from S. Maria Maddalena. There is the ‘Madonna del latte’ from Rocca d’Orcia by the fifteenth century Sienese painter Giovanni di Paolo, with an Annunciazione and a Crocifissione painted respectively on its lower section and cusp. Beyond the altar, which houses a painting of the Florentine school from the first half of the seventeenh century, the collection continues with coffin headpieces from the end of the fifteenth century, sacred articles and an interesting collection of eigtheenth century silver reliquaries.
