Here you find Europe’s biggest Historical Centre, a mysterious and charming world where arts and handicrafts become entwined in the labyrinth of the “caruggi”, a web of dark alleys and sparkling little places. In every corner you meet art- frescoed vaults, baroque churches and old slate portals, carved and eroded by the passage of time. Here the names of the ancient Genoese families mingle with the Arab, Andean and Chinese names of recent immigrants.

The famous folk singer and poet Fabrizio De Andrè was friend and brother to the people of Via del Campo. Although he was born in an exclusive area of the city, he loved these districts and sang about them with great intensity. The museum containing his guitar and original covers of his records is located in Via del Campo.

The Cinque Terre are part of a coastline unique in the entire world, one of the most beautiful landscapes ever built by man. The 15 kilometres of shoreline with its “5 Lands”: the villages of Vernazza, Monterosso, Corniglia, Riomaggiore and Manarola, are located in front of the sea but against the rugged mountain slopes.

The Cinque Terre are nowadays a National Park that, together with the Protected Sea Area, try to defend not only nature but also humanity. This is in the hope to motivate its inhabitants to remain on their land and carry on this story of love and labour, the fruit of this being the creation of the Sciacchetrà: the famous wine of the area.

PROGRAM:

Day 1. Arrival in Genoa. Dinner at typical restaurant.
Day 2. Genoa: sailing boat tour with skipper for the whole morning (minimum 4 participants and with surcharge – see notes below) or, alternatively, visit to the Sea Museum and to the Aquarium (only entrance tickets). Guided tour in the afternoon of the historical centre including a panoramic outlook over the city from the neighbourhood of Castelletto.
Day 3. Genoa. Departure along the coast way to reach Portofino. We suggest a stop so you can get to know the picturesque hamlet. Continue by motorway until Carrodano, from there you go on to the 5 Terre. Overnight stay.
Day 4. Cinque Terre. Whole day dedicated to hikes in the Natural Park and visits to various places when possible by boat (depending on weather conditions) and train. We will supply you with material showing several routes. You may request a specialised naturalist guide from the area (if interested, you must ask for it in the notes). Overnight stay.
Day 5. Cinque Terre. The tour ends with breakfast
